Hey Keith thank you for reading the piece , I hope that it caught you, in a good way. I’ve been wrestling with this idea of my mortality especially over this couple of months when I’m sick. And the comfort that I feel is that, if I were to pass on. I’d get to see the people that matter so much to me and I could sit and chat with them just like the old times. -Shain

Hi Gabby, thanks so much for reading and commenting. I had the first micro piece ready and when I found the other one that I wrote on my dad’s death anniversary, they seem to fit. So I combined the two. -Shain

A lot of what you wrote resonates with me. I stayed with a fiancé too long. I got out while he was grooming me to be compliant and to do what I was told. That “do what I was told” reminded me of my childhood. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough!

I have learned that living MY OWN LIFE on my terms is worth everything! 💕

That really got to me. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. That line “do what I was told” has such a deep echo, especially when it starts to feel like your past is trying to repeat itself through someone else’s control. I’m so glad you found your way out. That takes strength most people don’t even realize.

Living on your own terms isn’t just brave,it’s a quiet kind of revolution. I’m proud of you for choosing you. You deserve softness, freedom, and peace that doesn’t come with conditions.

This is chilling: If I fall,

let the floor remember.

And maybe, just maybe,

I would have a proper

Family Reunion.

That line came from a place I usually try to avoid, but some truths only land when you stop flinching. I’m really moved it resonated with you.

Thank you for seeing the weight in those words. And for reading with your heart open. And I’ve also responded to your DMs. Hope you would give those bands and the albums mentioned a chance. And if you liked them, check out their discography, you’ll see the evolution in their music, that’s why when you asked me for specific bands I didn’t respond immediately, I took a step back and thought about it. I’d recommend to start with The Promise Ring. I look forward to your reviews and also to hear if you like any of the other bands i recommended.

Let yourself sleep! It's communion with yourself without your logical / intellectual brain on. It's time for your body to heal itself with its marvelous underlying systems. Some say your dream state is more your 'waking' self than when you are awake.

Aside from that, the poems are expressed well! They feel more direct, like you want to talk to your reader. Interesting use of the bold font style and some choice, well-placed images.

Thank you, Lyw ,I really needed to hear that. I’ve been fighting rest like it’s some kind of weakness, but maybe sleep is the one place I stop performing survival and actually return to myself. What you said about dreams being the real “waking” self… that’s going to stick with me.

And I’m glad the poems felt more direct this time, I’ve been trying to strip back the layers without losing the pulse underneath. Appreciate you noticing the images and formatting too trying to use form like a second voice.

And the choice of fonts is me trying to replicate the typewriter feel. It just made sense to me.

Grateful as always for your insight and presence here.

Very moving... That line “If I die, I want my eyes to be open” hit hard. There’s something so painfully honest here about what it costs to pretend, to hold it all together for others while unravelling inside.
