This is brilliant!! The imagery, the honesty, the exhaustion—you’ve put words to a kind of pain that usually hides behind silence. Amazing job writing this. For holding a mirror to what so many feel but can’t explain.
Man, what a portrait. Like finding a picture on my phone from fifteen years ago when I was dragging bottom across sharp rocks in the shallow water of the river of life.
Thank you so much. I can only write what I’ve lived through. I can’t write about sunshine and rainbows because I only have had brief moments in my entire life, whereas this feeling, this heaviness has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. But thank you so much for reading and not turning away. I really appreciate that.- Shain
Hey thanks so much, it was a tough piece for me to write personally but I’m glad it resonated with you. Hopefully you’ll stay with me in this journey. -Shain
Hi David thank you so much.. I struggled a bit with that one . Initial drafts were too long and then i reeled myself back and asked why am I writing this piece? Is it to impress or to tell my story. After that it brought me a bit of clarity and i decided to just go with my gut. Glad you loved that line. I appreciate you letting me know and thank you so much for reading the whole piece and taking the time out to point out your favourite line. I hope you will stay with me on this journey. Again, from the bottom of my heart thank you. -Shain
Thank you for sitting through it and giving me the time and patience to read it. I know things that I write about are tough, but I can only speak my truth and when I started on substack, I decided that I’ll be writing like what I’ve written into my journals. So no filters, no happy endings(unless it legitimately happens ). Thank you so much. I hope you will stick around. - Shain
there is indeed a somber quiet here, but the poem is very alive - lots of movement and response to life, like a bird in a cage. The contrast makes the poem much more powerful.

Wow. Tough read but I expected that. You have a wealth of life experiences, but you are still standing. I applaud you for this piece!
